MIXED MEDIA MONDAY - SOMETHING/S OLD

Please click on image for detailed view.

*Ferns are a very ancient family of plants originating in Egypt: early fern fossils predate the beginning of the Mesozoic era, 360 million years ago. They are older than land animals and far older than the dinosaurs. They were thriving on Earth for two hundred million years before the flowering plants evolved.
*The Sphinx:Surveying the sands of Giza,Egypt, the great Sphinx has stood guard since about 2500 B.C. The greatest monumental sculpture in the ancient world, the Sphinx is carved out of a single ridge of stone 240 feet (73 meters) long and 66 feet (20 meters) high. It represents the body of a lion with the head of a king or a god.

Dear Gayle, a few weeks ago I have just been there and the sphinx, like the pyramids is really monumental.
There is a saying: Everybody is afraid of time, but the time is afraid of the pyramids". They might still be there for the next thousands of years.
But there is one thing, that the sphinx might miss. Green and shaddow.
I suppose the fern would be most welcome ;0)
Have a hgreat week
Janine

Gayle,
Wonderful post! I had no idea that ferns had existed on Earth so long, but they've always been my favorite lant. They make a perfect background for the Sphinx.

Your "old" is a bit older than mine, Gayle!!! This is a beautiful combination of colors and images.

Hi there! This is so much fun (the bold green is so striking) and I read the piece to Kendra, who is completely into dinosaurs right now and she loved it. Wonderful piece and thank you for your sweet comment, Kristin xo

Love the history and these elements are very interesting together! The contrast between the fern and the sphinx is striking, but works well against each other.
